January has been crap for me. It’s the worst month I’ve had since about 8 or 9 months ago.

Here are the totals for my January 2011 Affiliate marketing efforts.

Total Spent:  $6662.13
Gross Profit: $12,837.00
Net Profit:       $6,174.87
ROI:                        92.6%

Though I can make the excuse that my niche (financial) tends to crap out in the winter, I’d expected to scale things up to compensate for that. My MSN campaigns have suffered from several slaps and I’ve been trying to adjust my landing pages to keep MSN happy. Just about 7 days ago I implemented a change that has slightly hurt my ROI but has so far kept the slaps away.

I’m getting sick of these slaps and unpredictable volume. I’m getting real interested in moving into other traffic sources.

So to recap the video….it’s really important that you work in a direction that interests you. You need to spend quite a bit of time thinking about this and refining it in your mind or possibly on paper. Revisit the issue on a regular basis.

Once you figure out a strategy that suits you well, it’s worthwhile to consider that there may be a number of good strategies. Then do a sort of pros vs cons comparison of your strategies.

Once you’ve put some good thought into this you should focus exclusively on one thing. Be relentless until you make it successful!!  Assess what works for you and what doesn’t. Allocate more time and energy to the things that produce the best results.

Don’t buy a Kodak Playtouch.

This is my first HD quality video post. I shot it with the recently released Kodak Playtouch HD video recorder. I was initially pretty excited about the device. Among other things, it offers an external microphone jack which is hard to find on consumer video devices.

I don’t recommend you buy it. It was glitchy from the beginning.

1st: At first, it wouldn’t reliably turn on. I missed a couple of photo opportunities.  Then it seemed to work well for a while with the exception of some strange audio pops.

2nd: I shot 3 videos for my blog and 1 video for an upcoming guest post on another blog. Shot about 10 minutes of my son’s football game.

3rd: It died. Some kind of software problem is preventing it from operating. It turns on then the screen freezes, none of the buttons work. You can’t even shut it off without removing the battery.

In closing, I suspect that a firmware upgrade might eventually solve the problems I had with the device. New stuff like this sometimes takes a while to work out the kinks. But I just don’t trust it anymore.

Before I even received my Kodak camera in the mail, my wife ordered a Canon T2i Rebel. With an extra telephoto lens and a $179 SD card it came to about $1400. Although it looks like a regular camera, it has a reputation for shooting excellent HD video. Sometime in the next week or two I’ll shoot a video with it for you.
